Minor Ear Surgery In Adults

In adults, the most common reason for the placement of ear tubes is for Eustachian tube dysfunction (where the tube becomes clogged) as well as serous otitis media. The ear tube placement is a detour bypassing the Eustachian tube so that ventilation occurs through the ear canal instead of the nose. It also allows automatic ear popping. This procedure can be likened to a hole in a balloon. With a hole, no pressure builds up because it escapes through the hole.

Tube placement for adults is performed in the office, and there is no downtime. The majority of the time, ear tubes dramatically reduce ear infection frequency and severity. Hearing may also improve.
